CUE Theory
What is CUE Frame Work & What it is not
CUE stands for Capacity Utilization Efficiency. CUE Framework is to measure operational efficiency. of any deployed system. The framework is similar to the "ROI" ( Return On Investment ) concept used in business process. However, CUE framework does not include business aspect ( financial value or viability ) by design. The reasoning behind is that the framework assumes that the operation it is being used to measure is already business viable. Thus CUE is not a business validation tool.
The framework does not cover the remedy part as well. The scope of the framework encompasses only monitoring and measuring operational efficiency. Plan of action to be derived based on the measurement is subject to the context and left to the users.
Fundamentals of CUE Framework
Example for CUE measurement
In this case, the utilization efficiency factor for book-shelf is 150/1000 = 0.15 or 15%
( In a conventional method, utilization factor will be considered to be 80% based on the number of books placed in the shelf. However, given that only 150 books are used by readers, 650 books are not being utilized. So these books will not be considered for service utilization. )
Postulates :
1. CUE Framework is generic to any kind of operation. The application of the framework is the choice of the user in given context and chosen KPI.5. One important factor that influences "CUE" externally is "service availability".
Service Availability = Actual availability of services provided by Deployed Capacity / Required availability of services provided
6. Though "CUE" framework atomically represents a snapshot of given instance, for effective use of the framework, the values should be captured continually on stipulated time intervals. Thus time becomes an important factor.
This is applicable when the system is in the "launch" phase. The service utilization is expected to increase gradually though the initial capacity deployed remains unchanged. ( eg. a metro rail segment is newly launched )
Implication => The capacity deployed should be modularized in a way that the deployment of additional capacity can be as minimum incremental as possible so that the curve for Ut to reach its maximum for the given capacity is minimal.
Scenario 2: If Ut is constant during the given time interval, CUE is inversely proportional to Ct.
This is applicable when the system is in a "stable" state with the level of service utilization reaching its maximum value. ( eg. a metro rail segment is reasonably stabilized )
Implication => This stage demands further optimization resulting in a change (reduction) in deployed capacity for further improvement of CUE.
Scenario 3: If both Ut and Ct are varying continually, then CUE is dependent on both Ut and Ct.
This is applicable when the system is in a dynamic state continually. ( eg. peak and off-peak hours of metro rail segments )
Implication => To achieve the higher CUE , it requires
a) the predictability of Utilization variation
7. While addressing the above scenarios, an important parameter to be taken into consideration is the Service Availability. Service Utilization for minor intervals within given interval period should be observed and analyzed. Below measures will be of interest in respective aspects.
a) Minimum Service Utilization -> Guarantees Service Availability
b) Maximum Service Utilization -> Risk to service availability
c) Mode of Service Utilization -> Most likely scenario for service availability
d) Mean of Service Utilization -> Serves as a directional measure for CUE within the minor interval. ( if the difference between Minimum and Mean is very high, CUE will become low.

Thirukkural - 1 - Manathukkan Maasilan
TRANSILERATION
34. manaththukkaN maasilan aadhal anaiththaRan
aakula neera piRa.
TAMIL MEANING
To be pure at heart is virtue. Rest is not relevant.
Thirukkural has been proclaimed by the scholars that the philosophy professed in the book holds good independent of time, country, culture or religion. Hence it is revered as " Ulagap pothumarai" ( "Bible of Universe" ). This couplet stands a good example of this virtue.
I have chosen this one ahead of traditional "The Praise of God" for in my view, being in peace with self is of the utmost importance and pre-requisite for the pursuit of any other virtue.

Aasai Mugam Maranthu Poche
The below is yet another novelty of Bharathiyar.
It is very typical for poets to portray they see their beloved in everything what they see.... The modern cinema ( at least Tamil ones ) often have songs based on the theme that the lover sees his/her beloved in every person seen.
Bharathiyar brings a totally different picture in our view. Oh alas... the lover had forgotten beloved's face... What kind of emotion would that be ? It requires a lot of integrity more than creativity or courage to bring such an imagination. An unique experience yet again...
Below my "crude" translation as usual and a layman commentary.... ( The song is written as a lamentation by lover girl of Lord Krishna. I read from some commentaries on Bharathiyar work that this song was written by Bharathiyar as his yearning for his mother though it fits more of a love relationship)
( Aasai mugam marandhu poachchae – idhai yaaridam solvaenadi thoazhi)
Alas.. the desirous face of my beloved had faded from memory...whom will i complain/share about this my friend...
(naesam marakkavillai nenjam – enil ninaivu mugam marakkalaamoa)
The love is intact in the heart , yet how can I forget that memorable face?
1. கண்ணில் தெரியுதொரு தோற்றம்- அதில் கண்ணன் அழகு முழுதில்லை;
(kannil theriyuthoru thotram - athil kannan azhaghu muzhuthillai )
There seem to be a distorted picture (of his).... but, the "bright and beauty" of his face is unfulfilled.
(nannu mugavadivu kaanil - antha nalla malarchirippaik kaanom)
when i attempt to bring his face in front of my eyes, that "flower blossoming" smile is missing....
( oyvu mozhithalum illamal - avan uravai ninaitthikirukkum ullam )
Un-intermittently - my heart is yearning for his relation
(vaayum uraippathundu kandai - antha maayan pugazhinai eppothum )
My lips are always enchanting the praise of the "beloved"
3. கண்கள் புரிந்துவிட்ட பாவம்-உயிர்க்கண்ணன் உருமறக்கலாச்சு;
( kangal purinthuvitta paavam - uyirkkannan uru marakkalachchu )
It is the sin done by my eyes that the image of my beloved Krishna is lost from my memory;
(pengal inaththil ithu pola - oru pethaiyai mumbu kandathundo )
Have you ever seen such a stupid enough girl ?
(Thenai maranthirukum vandum, oli Sirapai maranthu vitta poovum)
Honey bee that had forgotten the honey (that it strives on) ; A flower that had forgotten the sunlight (that blossoms it )
( Vaanai maranthirukum payirum, indha Vaiyam muzhuthum illai thozhi )
Crop that had forgotten the drizzle from sky (that lives it) - does not exist in this world, dear friend
( So, how could this happen that "I" who had forgotten my beloved might exist!!!!)
(Kannan mugam maranthuponal, intha Kangal irunthu payan undo )
If I forget the face of krishna, then what is the use of my eyes?
(Vanna padamumillai kandaai, ini Vaazhum vazhi ennadi thozhi )
you see, there is no photograph (of his), how would I live (missing him totally)!!!

Ninai Charanadainthaen - Bharathi
Bharathi had written poems on Lord Krishna with imagination of different roles. The one below is written under "Kannamma - Enathu Kula Theivam" ( Kannan - my God )
The way I cherish the song is that it reflects different stages of "devotion".
Typically, our prayers start with wants based on our "Desire and Fear" ( independent of if they are materialistic or not, if they linked to silly things or big ones ). (stanza 1 & 2 )
Then we come in terms to a stage that "all are His deeds and we are just here to execute" ( stanza 3)
Then the realization comes that the way to live is "Love"... Love alone can elevate us above the negatives of life... Still the "two" exists, "intelligence of the self" exists.... "judgement of the self" exists.... (stanza 4)
Finally comes the total surrendering... surrendering the intelligence.. leaving everything to the almighty... (stanza 5)

Vishwaroopam - Review posted in FB
Despite all that it is a Brilliant performance, production, storyline, etc....
It might be claimed that it is just a movie... The fact remains though that it triggers some uncomfortable questions around what is the meaning of "peace making" in troubled countries....... Kamal Hassan has left it - rightly so - to viewers' contemplation - if at all if this is of any interest. In my view, though the film is violent in presentation, the message underlined throughout the movie is "Peace".
An extraordinary movie and definitely sets the standards high from local masala.
With my very limited exposure to Hindi movies, probably Bollywood should be the first one - given the size of the market - to learn film-making from this ever-hunger superstar. In my view, much highly rated , non-masala movies , Rang-De-Basanti, 3 Idiots, Lagaan, etc are nowhere near the hallmark of Viswaroopam - but for the storyline of the movies (Tare Zameen Par is not mentioned in the list intentionally).
All the "famous" Kollywood directors - likes of Shankar, Muragadoss (Khajini) and whomsoever known for high budget, mass hit directors should go down on their knees....The film triggers to rate Kamal Hassan as the best director in contemporary cinema. I wish we had a few more serious people in the industry who are capable and loves the art they are pursuing.
Having said all of that, it is still not enough. The "movie experience" is still not complete...The cinema has to get rid of "cinematic" stuff....And for Kamalhassan he has to go beyond himself for the art he loves.....
Conclusion : A must watch if you have not yet.... A must buy movie (DVD - on official release )
-----skip if you have not watched the movie yet-----
1) At least I did not understand what is the significance of "Antique" shop scene. Why Kamal had to lead the "private detective" to the warehouse ?
2) Dialogues related to "existence of God", "nallavara kettavara" etc. Better he could have avoided even these dialogues. At least happy that he did not induldge in it more.
3) Why is there a character of Angela required ?
4) like someone who has high profile of triggering atomic explosion in newyork city will have direct engagement in "on the field" activities, dialogues (FBI interrogation, many conversations while the troop is on the run), need and role of Pooja in the operations - given that Kamal and Angela has bugged everything in her office. Osama ? Prime minister
"I" - A pshycic (dis)order
Shankar had been tactical in choosing his subject of the movie and executing it technically well. Largely he had altered between romance and violence(linked to some social cause) over last 20 years. Obviously these are the subjects that can attract the mass invariably. The last two of his ventures having been a bit away from both ( Enthiran being science fiction and Nanban - a remake of social comedy ).
"I" is combination of romance and violence. While the romance is as pleasant as it can be shown on the screen, the violence is so ugly to be even narrated in a review.
The screenplay ( should i say editing ) moves fluently between the present and the past without bringing the burden of "typical flash back". Kudos. Just to be clear, this leaves no suspense to the audience - and it only left to the scene by scene presentation ( is this called "screenplay" ) to keep the audience engaged. With the reputation Shankar has for his presentation, this should have been a cake-walk, albeit it was not so. Only screen presence of Vikram keeps the audience engaged.
At least one good take-away is that the message of love is still in tact. Though it is hero who is doing the lead role, the plot in my view is the heroine's to stick to take the struggle along with him. Vikram's character is full of positivity until the "first half" of the story ( not exactly before intermission ). In general the screen play in the first half is simple and positive and hence nice.
The stunt scenes are not much enjoyable though its worth mentioning the effort visible behind them. The stunt sequence in china reminds the same location that was taken in MI3.
Vikram had proven his commitment to the profession he had chosen. He has done extraordinarily well. Wish he does not lose much of his active time and "structure" with such experiments. Hats-off. The location and camera are treat for the romantic scenes. Emy Jackson looks good in first half and display a bit more emotions in the second half. There is a crew of artiste - done their part well, though their actions are so predictable.
Usual ARR in Shankar's movies is absent - ARR has to re-invent ( even through re-use? ) - not impressive at all. Liked the song "mirasalayitten"(for picturization) , "made in vennila" (both music and picturization), "pookal" (camera). Did not like(could not understand) the other song with Vikram coming like "monkey" at all.
It all started from Movie : Gentleman. Scene: Arjun is interrogated by police. His face is covered with a pillow cover and put with a rat. After a few seconds of sound effects, the pillow cover is removed.... The rat is dead and held by Arjun in his mouth. If you are looking for more of this kind of presentation... don't miss "I". If you can tolerate these sequences for a few lovely scenic and romantic sequences amidst - still watch it. If you are not for this dose at any price.... think it over....
( I am known in my friends circle for my critic views about Shankar's movies. So take it with a pinch of salt ).

Veenaiyadi Nee Enakku - Bharathi
I consider this song as very special for its uniqueness. In general, the poetic way of expressing love has been to place the beauty/supremacy of the beloved above the lover altogether or to show the commitment of the lover to protect/preserve the superiority of the beloved. But in this song, Bharathi had painted a totally different picture by portraying the oneness of the beloved and the lover. This is an astonishing portrayal.
For me, even in the relationship of love, it sounds a bit "unacceptable" to surrender the pride - by either of the two. In this beautiful poem, Bharathiyar has portrayed how "two" reaches their best by becoming one. As the days go by, I start to realize that love is absolute and untouchable by materialistic values ( including pride, honest, good, bad etc). I still feel that beauty of the "married life" can be first realized by recognizing the pride of individuals and then appreciating the togetherness.
The transiliteration of the poem followed my attempt of translation in English

MAGPAD
A few years back I had thought of an idea to avoid "newsprint" waste. The idea is to "produce" an electronic book which will have simple capacity of only downloading the content via internet (or whatever means - despite my association with telecom software industry for 13 years, hardly i can differentiate between broadband, wi-fi, GPRS, 3G, 2G etc). The device should look more like current magazine size (or even a bigger one close to current newspaper ). The daily news content of the current newspapers should be downloadable onto this device on a daily basis ( you can keep a specific time to simulate the current user experience of morning delivery). So, on a daily basis, the reader will take this "magpad" and start reading the content. The "touch" and "feel" should be almost that of the current physical paper. For example, if the reader wants to go to next page, he should be able to do it with same kind of hand motion - go to the right bottom of the device and "turn". This way daily printing will be avoided and the carbon footprint will be reduced. I have not done any calculation of "carbon cost" of such an electronic device but i think in a cumulative period the saving will surpass the expense.
What more... you need only one "magpad" for any number of magazines/newspaper for a reader. Besdies, with appropriate audio-video capabilities the "magpad" can also show the news with video coverage (something similar to the newspaper that is experienced in Harrypotter story). Also, with read-out option, visually impaired can benefit (or if the screen can be so intelligent that the brail letters can be felt on the screen).
Do you like the idea ?

Enthiran - A delayed "view" and "review"
I had been quite impressed with a lot of "TV" shows, interviews about this movie. Audio Release, Rajni's interview, Making of the movie etc.. were quite propagating the greatness, uniqueness, adventurousness - and you can add many more such "ness".... I was impressed. My friends told me that I would enjoy the movie for Rajnikant for his performance.
With all these put behind my mind, I suspected that I might not like the movie as much as I would expect. And it was the case. Though there are a few things which are real good. The top most is the vision with which Late Sujata had written the script for this movie. A ROBOT with such as skill is very much a possibility in today's world - however, to imagine that in late 80s could not have been a simple one.
The second aspect is the effort and execution Rajni had demonstrated in this movie. He is simply superb. He had perfectly fitted into the role of ROBOT in many characters "humble servant", "dreadfull villain", "innocent machine", "graceful dancer". His efforts are relentless and his approach towards the movie with such a high commitment and dedication is an inspiration for everyone - not just for those in the film industry, but for anyone.
Now, coming to the part - what I did not like so much, the movie is too much "tech weighed". Despite that the film is fully aided by "graphics", there is pure lack of "creativity". The film starts with arrival of ROBOT and entire first half is how nice "chitti" is. The scene sequences identified are very ordinary ( not that they are natural ). The second half has no substance at all. After Chitti becoming the villain, there is no "sense" prevailed in the story, in my view.
The simplest of the things that I could not understand is that "Chitti is only a robot. He does not have "emotional sense" - meaning, if someone touches him "light" or "rough" will only make litte difference. The covet by Robot for Ash is something that I could not understand and the entire movie revolves around it.
The movie is as "stupid" as "I think". Except for some major sccale of efforts in "graphics" - that too not of much skillful or artistic but only gigantic, the film is very very ordinary.
Looking Beyond the Obvious
Well, the above is not the point relating to the subject. Given that I am more dealing with more and more the so called "managerial" aspects in my profession, there are always many jargons I come across. One of them surely is "looking beyond the obvious" - Most of the times the problems are always symptoms, the root causes are elsewhere.
But an incident with my wife was a different eye-opener. She went with our son to a shop to buy him some dress. My son was thirsty and asked for water. Like any other "contemporary IT" mother, my wife thought that he was wanting some ice-cream or a juice which is coming as this "thirsty" request. She promised him a juice once they finish the work at the shop.
After done the shopping, my wife looked for a juice shop. The next door was a Restaurant cum BAR (which is not unusual in the city we live). She asked for juice in the shop - unfortunately they did not have at that time. She was about to come out and my son stopped her... He told "amma, what is the problem if they do not have the juice, they have water ".......
Many a times, we make our life problems compounded. The above instance is a simple example. Now here comes the next management jargon... "keep it simple"!!!! I will keep an eye on my son. He will give me another case to write on this subject.
